Rankings released! QS World University Rankings: by Subject 2023

The QS World University Rankings: by Subject for this year assesses more than 1,500 educational institutions in 54 different subjects, categorized into five main faculties. It is the 13th edition of the ranking, which evaluates the academic performance of institutions in specific fields to help students and institutions identify program strengths and areas for improvement.

Some key highlights of the QS World University Rankings: by Subject 2024 are:

  • Institutions in the Arab Region, including Oman, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Qatar, and Jordan, host six of the ten most improved programs.
  • Three new subjects - Data Science, Art History, and Marketing - have been included in the evaluation.
  • American institutions lead in 32 subjects, with Harvard University ranking first in 14 subjects, two more than the previous year.
  • The University of Oxford dominates in four of the top 15 subject tables, including "Anatomy and Physiology," "Anthropology," and "English Language and Literature," while the University of Cambridge dominates in two: "Archaeology" and "Modern Languages."
  • Australia is ranked fourth in the world for research impact, as measured by the H-index, which considers the productivity and impact of published work from an institution.

Ben Sowter, QS Senior Vice President, said that the ranking provides a deeper understanding of how success is achieved, and sustained investment and international collaboration are key factors for progress. He also noted that better industry relationships are associated with improved employment, research, and innovation outcomes.
